Throughout these first few weeks, I have been actively committed to collecting data to help shape instruction. The main point of action was to administer student interest surveys and learning style inventories. Thursday, I provided the students with a blank interest survey and learning style inventory. Students worked on them at the end of the day after they took a vocabulary quiz. I chose to take these actions to help guide my instruction so that students are able to make more meaningful connections with the content and bring information into long term storage. The students thoroughly enjoyed filling out the survey and inventory, they really enjoy writing about themselves. They responded with enthusiasm to what I was asking of them.
Reflecting on Learning: Formative Data Collection
This week I learned some vitally important information to understanding who my students are and most importantly how they think about themselves. This data supports my learning in that all students learn differently. Through this I have learned that all of my students have unique interests and differences. Based on this information, this week I am gearing up my lessons with my students’ interests in mind. Based on the data that I have collected, I still wonder what impact connecting content to student interests will have on classroom community.
