The requirement for today's literary analysis was to choose one fiction picture book and write a persuasive essay on why that book should win the Caldecott Award. The Caldecott Award is awarded to outstanding illustrators for their work with children's picture books. This assignment connects with what I have been learning in my Teaching Children's Literature course. Today we talked about how valuable illustrations contribute to the overall theme and plot of the text. Aspects of illustration like line work, perspective, color, and medium can set the tone of the entire book and when executed well can make for a fantastic picture book.
